All volunteer coaches with Donaghmore GAA must have the following qualifications that are up to date.

  1. Introduction to Gaelic Games Coaching (ICGG) Award
  2. Safeguarding 1 (SG1) – renewed every 3 years
  3. Access NI Online Enhanced Check – renewed every 3 years

Coaches will need online accounts on Foireann, Tobar (the GAA eLearning portal) and on NI Direct.  Additionally, Foireann and Tobar accounts need to be linked.  See details below on how to do this.

1. Introduction to Gaelic Games Coaching (ICGG) Award

This is an introductory award for coaches of Gaelic games.  The course is organised by the club every couple of years or can be accessed via Tyrone GAA in Garvaghey.  The course is 6 hours and is usually run over two nights to avoid taking up a full Saturday.  This promo video give more details about the course.

2. Safeguarding 1 (SG1) Award

Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport Awareness Workshops relevant to coaches and others who work in a regulated role with children in the Association. Completion is valid for 3 years where the qualification must be renewed.

This course can now be completed virtually on the Tobar elearning platform or face to face and is a mandatory requirement for anyone working with children or young people in the association and must be completed prior to commencement of their position in the club. It is an excellent resource that assists clubs and individuals in the vital area of safeguarding and will help to ensure that clubs have the appropriate safeguarding policies and procedures in place so that they are compliant with both legal and best practice requirements in this area.

Booking Safeguarding 1 Virtual Workshop

Workshops are booked on this Tobar link  (or this link) .  There is a £5.00 cost for the course which the club will reimburse.  To book the correct course look for one titled “Ulster GAA (NI) Safeguarding 1 Virtual Workshop”.

Online Safeguarding 1 Refresher

The Online Safeguarding 1 Refresher programme is for those who previously attended a face to face Safeguarding 1 workshop. This programme can only be completed if you have attended a face to face Safeguarding 1 workshop within the last three years.

The online refresher may also be availed of by those who have attended relevant safeguarding training with other sports NGBs or through Sport NI.

3. Access NI Online Enhanced Check

In line with Legislation requirements and Association Rules, all persons working with children, young people, vulnerable groups or adults at risk in a voluntary or paid capacity, must be appropriately vetted and adequately trained prior to commencing their role. Those who are involved in the management of individuals appointed to work with your members in your club must also be vetted.

4. Linking Tobar and Foireann Accounts

Qualifications are managed via Tobar at https://learning.gaa.ie/ .  Foireann should have all of your information in one place including your Membership, Vetting and Qualifications.  Therefore is it necessary to link Tobar account to Foireann so that the Qualifications / Certificates can be accessible via Foireann and can be visible to the relevant members of their Club.
