Sympathies & support:
We continue to offer our thoughts, prayers and support for all families in our club and our community dealing with sickness and bereavement at this time. Please remain considerate to the elderly and anyone who finds themselves alone and make an extra special effort to call or visit.
Memorial Bench:
Some or all may have noticed that the viewing area of the pitch has been furnished with a beautiful summer seat in memorial to Sean, Marie and Barry. A fitting tribute to three great club members who spent so much time there over the years and who would love nothing more than to have others rest there as they watch the football. Always in our thoughts.
Presentation night:
For all our Seniors, Reserves and Minors is now confirmed for Sat 29th Feb in Quinns Corner. Sure to be a great nights craic for the club. Food and entertainment on the night. Tickets are £15 each available from Torrent Reception or on-line at 2019 Season Dinner Dance. IMPORTANT – We need tickets purchased before this weekend. We would ask that everyone gets their tickets early so we can confirm numbers. Thanks.
A special EGM:
Thank you to the many club members who attended the EGM on Monday. Comghgairdeas agus maith sibh to our new committee and all who have taken up positions on the new sub committees. These include Culture; Youth Coaching; Finance and Facilities Development; Volunteering; Governance; Child Protection and Health and Well Being; Football Development; Public Relations. More information on all these will be available on the Club website shortly. If you feel you can offer your experience, energy, enthusiasm in any of these areas please jump on board.
Club Maith:
For those members not familiar, the club has undertaken a programme to achieve Club Maith Accreditation. Club Maith is a Club accreditation scheme which is unique to the GAA. It allows Clubs to be benchmarked against best practice standards across the full range of GAA Club activity. A Club Maith award makes a clear, proven statement about the quality of a Club, right across the board.
Club maith will complement the clubs ambitious plans for future development. It will also see the club transform in a number of key areas. This will involve a lot of restructuring and will of course involve a lot of local talent, expertise and commitment. Please look out for opportunities where you can best place yourself moving the Club forward in the community. http://ulster.gaa.ie/club-maith/
Registration:
It’s that time of year again. The club would ask that as many people as possible register by signing up to Club Donaghmore. You also get entered in the Club Donaghmore members monthly draw. It represents great value for money for our members and is an essential revenue for the development of the club. Contact Mark Nugent (registrar) on 07833367485 or John Mc Kenna (Club Donaghmore Rep) 07515288224.
Last man Standing:
Thanks to everyone who entered this years LMS. Nothing short of a massacre in the first week saw almost half the first picks dumped out. An update will be available over the next couple of days. Good luck to everyone still in.
National Draw Tickets:
Thank you to everyone who supported the Club through the GAA National Draw. All tickets should now be in. Hopefully we will have a lucky winner.
Ladies Senior:
Pre-season continues with the appointment of a new fitness coach. First session this Sunday at 9am then Thursdays sessions on the field with the minors 8pm – 9pm. Well done ladies and good luck in the season ahead.
Ladies minors:
Training continues Thursdays 8pm-9pm and Mondays 7:30pm-8:30pm with the seniors. Aodh Ruadh match last Sunday was postponed so next up is Moy at home on Monday 24th at 7pm. Please come along and show your support. Ádh mór girls.
U14 Ladies:
A big year for all our U14’s with the Feile being staged locally. The girls training continues Sat 10:45am – 11:45 on the training pitch. Ádh mór to the girls and their mgt team; Denise, Conor, Darren, Mari and Angela.
Senior and Reserves:
The bad wather caused the postponement of the planned friendlies and continue to put pressure on pitch conditions. Friendly V Warrenpoint on Friday then training continues Sunday and Tuesday as normal. The teams look positive and progress is evident. Championship draw should be made tomorrow (Thurs) so keep your ear out for that.
The senior team and management are in the hunt for a physio to assist the team on match days. If you know of anyone keen, willing and capable please get them to contact Darren Torres 07909 996450.
Youth Football:
This years youth season is set to be a challenging one in the best way possible. We have 2 teams entered in U14/16 and Minor age groups. The two teams at each age group will be entered in different grades ie 2 & 4. We have had experience of this last year and it does bring challenges in terms of coaching manpower and fixtures. As well as that the changes to how the season is run in terms of County Board fixtures could pose issues. Ultimately both the club and county board aim to provide more meaningful football to more players so we need all the support we can get and lots of patience and understanding too.
Minor Lads:
Training continues Wednesdays 7:30- 8:45pm and Sundays (time TBC). Again good luck to Aidan and the lads as they too begin the season proper. First games are this Sat 22nd Feb; 2A are away to Parish rivals Galbally at 3:30pm while at the minute 3A are home to Rock also at 3:30pm. Please keep an ear for changes. All support welcome.
U14 lads:
Again, a big year for the lads with the Feile being hosted locally. At the minute, the first competitive fixture is Sat 22nd; 1A are away to Eglish at 11am while 3A are home to Clonoe also at 11am. Again, please keep an eye on social media for confirmation. Training continues Thursdays at 7:30pm.
Any newcomers to the club/village are welcome. Contact Martin O’Neill (Youth Co-ordinator) on 07801819631 or Mark Nugent (Registrar) on 07833367485. Alternatively, just bring your boots to one of the above sessions and speak with one of the coaches.

An essential bit of kit, professionally fitted at cost price of only £15. Sincere Thanks once again to James and Helen Kelly for their now annual offering of this service. Save the Date:
After last years very successful St Patricks Day Breakfast the culture committee are planning an even bigger event. Sure to be a great morning for the family so why not stay at home for a feed and a few tunes. Contact Mari Mc Donnell on 07866 718341 if you can help or offer any ideas for our St Patrick’s Day Celebrations.
Also, please look out for an appeal for support in hosting the Feile na Og in June. The club will be hosting both a boys and a girls team for this years feile which will be held locally. This is one of the biggest events in the GAA youth calendar and for those who visited Mayo last year is not only a football tournament but an exhibition of generosity and hospitality. This will be a great opportunity to put Donaghmore on the map and will undoubtedly bring out the best the club has to offer.
Irish Class/Rang Gaelige:
Our rang gaelige is growing from strength to strength. New course continues every Tues at 7pm for beginners/8pm for intermediate. Running for 8 weeks at £20. Finishing just before St Patrick’s Day. Contact Seán Antón Ó Conalláin on 07709714100 or saconlon15@hotmail.co.uk to register interest. New comers still welcome to join at any time.
Culture:
Well done to Scoil Trad Torrent and especially our young members who had the great experience of participating in the first Youth Folk Orchestra in the Guildhall, Derry. Maith sibh.
