Health and Well Being: Positive Steps Talks

One of the more exciting and rewarding developments from our EGM and new sub-committee structure is the prospect of reaching out to the wider Donaghmore community and offering our energy and resources for those not directly involved in Football.

Our wealth of experience and enthusiasm will bring a series of educational speakers on subjects like Alcohol mis-use; Drug and Gambling addiction; Mental Health awareness as well as offering opportunities for everyone to get active through simple social activities such as walking, couch to 5km runs and many other initiatives.

Ádh mór agus go raibh maith agaibh to Fionnuala and her new team.

A special EGM:

Thank you to the many club members who attended the EGM recently.  Comghgairdeas agus maith sibh to our new committee and all who have taken up positions on the new sub committees. These include Culture; Youth Coaching; Finance and Facilities Development; Volunteering; Governance; Child Protection and Health and Well Being; Football Development; Public Relations.  More information on all these will be available on the Club website shortly. If you feel you can offer your experience, energy, enthusiasm in any of these areas please jump on board.

Club Maith:

For those members not familiar, the club has undertaken a programme to achieve Club Maith Accreditation. Club Maith is a Club accreditation scheme which is unique to the GAA. It allows Clubs to be benchmarked against best practice standards across the full range of GAA Club activity. A Club Maith award makes a clear, proven statement about the quality of a Club, right across the board.

Club maith will compliment the clubs ambitious plans for future development.  It will also see the club transform in a number of key areas. This will involve a lot of restructuring and will of course involve a lot of local talent, expertise and commitment.  Please look out for opportunities where you can best place yourself moving the Club forward in the community. http://ulster.gaa.ie/club-maith/

Registration:

It’s that time of year again. The club would ask that as many people as possible register by signing up to Club Donaghmore. You also get entered in the Club Donaghmore members monthly draw. It represents great value for money for our members and is an essential revenue for the development of the club.  Contact Mark Nugent (registrar) on 07833367485 or John Mc Kenna (Club Donaghmore Rep) 07515288224.

Last man Standing:

Thanks to everyone who entered this year's LMS. Due to cup competition and limited premier league action, this week will be skipped. Anyone still in should get their week 4 entries in to Mark before next Wednesday 4th March. Good luck to the 154 still in.

Ladies Senior:

We welcome the introduction of Ciaran Loane as new coach for our senior ladies. I’m sure everyone around the club will make Ciaran very welcome. Good luck in the 2020 season girls. Training continues as per whatsapp info.

Ladies minors:

Aodh Ruadh and Moy matches were both postponed due to weather. Up next is Edendork in MUSA at 2pm this Sun 1st Mar. Please come along and show your support. Ádh mór girls.

U14 Ladies:

A big year for all our U14’s with the Feile being staged locally.  The girls training continues Sat 10:45am – 11:45 on the training pitch.  Ádh mór to the girls and their mgt team.

Senior and Reserves:

The bad weather continues to cause problems with plans. Training continues Tuesday, Friday Sunday as normal. The teams look positive and progress is evident.  Championship draw pitted us against Ardboe.

Is it You? The senior team and management are in the hunt for a physio to assist the team on match days.  If you know of anyone keen, willing and capable please get them to contact Darren Torres 07909 996450.

Referees: We are also appealing for anyone inside or outside the club to come on board as our club referee.  The challenges are well documented but when you look at the success of parish neighbour Sean Hurson it's about character.  Are you passionate about football; fair, decisive, strong? We will support you in all ways possible through courses and resources.  You don’t have to have experience we will ease you in through youth football at a pace you are comfortable with. If you have any questions or are in any way interested please contact Darren Torres 07909 996450.

Youth Football:

This year’s youth season is set to be a challenging one in the best way possible. We have 2 teams entered in U14/16 and Minor age groups.  The two teams at each age group will be entered in different grades ie 2 & 4. We have had experience of this last year and it does bring challenges in terms of coaching manpower and fixtures.  As well as that the changes to how the season is run in terms of County Board fixtures could pose issues. Ultimately both the club and county board aim to provide more meaningful football to more players so we need all the support we can get and lots of patience and understanding too.

Minor Lads:

The weather caused all games to be rescheduled last weekend. Training continues Wednesdays 7:30- 8:45pm.  Next up for 2A this Sunday 1st March is a home match V Moy at 4pm while 3A are away to Pomeroy at 2:15pm also on Sun 1st Mar. Please check Tyrone website or social media for results. Please keep an ear for changes. All support welcome.

U14 lads:

Again the weather caused all games to be rescheduled last weekend. Training continues Thursdays at 7:30pm. Next up for 1A this Sat 29th Feb is a home match V Cookstown at 11am while 3A are away V Moy at 11am.  Please check Tyrone website or social media for results. Please keep an eye on social media for confirmation.

Any newcomers to the club/village are welcome.  Contact Martin O’Neill (Youth Co-ordinator) on 07801819631 or Mark Nugent (Registrar) on 07833367485. Alternatively, just bring your boots to one of the above sessions and speak with one of the coaches.

U8/U10 lads: Saturday mornings indoor sessions continue for the U8 lads 10:30-11:30am while Sunday mornings 11-12noon are for the U10 lads again indoors for the next few weeks.

Wee Pats: the ever popular Wee Pats are back this Fri 28th 6:30pm – 7:15pm for another 4 week programme.  Aimed at delivering basic skills in the funnest fashion possible the sessions are open to U6 boys and girls.  (P1-P2). Just come along in your runners and bring £1.

Gold Mark Award: is an Ulster GAA initiative which encourages and rewards our younger members for their volunteering work.  The participants record the hours they offer at any club activities from helping coaching, helping at functions or events, tuck shop duties amongst others.  Stevie Mc Nally our Gold Mark Volunteer coordinator then signs off the recorded hours awarding recognition at 50/100/150 and 200 hours service. Contact Stevie on donaghmorestpatricks.tyrone@lgfa.ie or 07541 531270. Well done to those that have recently reached the 50 hour mark and join our other awardees from earlier in the year. Great experience and accolade for our youth.

You can check all the club fixtures and results using the tyronegaa website on this link.  http://tyronegaa.ie/fixtures-results/

Fitted Mouth Guards:

Sincere thanks once again to James and Helen Kelly for their now annual offering of this service.  Go raibh maith agaibh.

Save the Date:

Please look out for an appeal for support in hosting the Feile na Og in June. The club will be hosting both a boys and a girls team for this year’s feile which will be held locally.  This is one of the biggest events in the GAA youth calendar and for those who visited Mayo last year is not only a football tournament but an exhibition of generosity and hospitality. This will be a great opportunity to put Donaghmore on the map and will undoubtedly bring out the best the club has to offer.

Irish Class/Rang Gaelige:

Our rang gaelige is growing from strength to strength. New course continues every Tues at 7pm for beginners/8pm for intermediate. Running for 3 more weeks at £20.  Finishing just before St Patrick’s Day. Contact Seán Antón Ó Conalláin on 07709714100 or saconlon15@hotmail.co.uk to register interest. New comers still welcome to join at any time drop in for a free taster class anytime.

Also please look out for our new conversation circle (coircal comhra) run by club member John Gallagher as part of his Irish Diploma.  All welcome, details TBC. Maith Thú John.

Scór

Maith thú also to Niamh Mc Crystal who won through the first round of the Scór sinsir on Sunday.  Niamh will now compete in the County Final this Sunday 1st of March in St Ciarans Ballygawley at 3pm.  Ádh mór Niamh from all at the club.

Culture:

After last year's very successful St Patrick's Day Breakfast the culture committee are planning an even bigger event.  Make sure you stay at home on 17th of March for our ‘Lá na gClubanna’ day; craic agus ceol, dancers, big breakfast, coircal comhra (irish conversation group) and much more.  We welcome the entire community. Sure to be a great morning for the family so why not stay at home for a feed and a few tunes. Contact Mari Mc Donnell on 07866 718341 if you can help or offer any ideas for our St Patrick’s Day Celebrations.

Sympathies & support:

We continue to offer our thoughts, prayers and support for all families in our club and our community dealing with sickness and bereavement at this time. Two families very close to the club continue to deal with serious illness, please pray especially for the O’Neill and Gallagher families. Please remain considerate to the elderly and anyone who finds themselves alone and make an extra special effort to call or visit.
